Description
MAGNESIUM PREPACKED ANODE 14.5KG
Product Overview :
Anodes provide cathodic protection in varying marine environments such as salt water, fresh water, and brackish water. Our sacrificial anodes conform to the highest Mil-Spec standards and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Depending on the type of metal and water we offer zinc, aluminum, and magnesium galvanic anodes for all of your underwater cathodic protection needs.
Magnesium Anodes are a type of Sacrificial Anode. They are mainly used when high driving potential is desirable, e.g. soils, fresh water, and brackish water. The corrosion products produced by magnesium alloys are non-toxic and therefore suitable for use in potable water.
Anodes used for pipelines, tanks and buried vessels are usually supplied pre-packaged in a cotton bag with a prepared backfill mixture that works to maintain moisture around the anode and lowers the anode to earth resistance. Anodes used in low resistivity soils may be supplied unpackaged.
Key Features
- Anodes come in permeable cotton bag with backfill and with standard tail cable.
- Provides cathodic protection
- Meets or exceeds US Military Specification (MIL-A-18001K)
- For use in Fresh Water
Installation
Magnesium Prepacked Anode 14.5kg are protected with plastic bags that must be removed before installation. Most of Magnesium anodes are installed to the new structures by using direct welding to the structure (be welded at yard or on site by using underwater welding), bolted, etc. These structures are usually immersed with environment such as: fresh water, brackish water or sea water. Thermit welding usually used for installation of prepackaged Magnesium to the structures buried in soil.
The anode must be in direct contact with the metal it protects : never paint around an anode or the anode itself.
When Should Anodes Be Replaced ?
Anodes deterioration rate may fluctuate according to the mooring area, water salinity, PH and temperature, potential electrical failure on and of course, the quality of the anodes themselves.
A good benchmark for replacement is when the anode is 70-80 % dissolved. We recommend to replace anodes every year. In all cases anodes deterioration should always be watched carefully together with the condition of the metal parts they protect. On the opposite, anodes may dissolve quickly if they are bad quality or if there is an electrical failure on.
